Samuel was raised in West Virginia. He received his B.S. in Biochemistry from West Virginia University where he worked under the tutelage of Dr. Nik Kovinich, researching anticancer natural products. Samuel joined the Bloom lab in 2019 and is currently developing methods for the synthesis of unnatural amino acids and therapeutic peptides.

Fun facts

  •  Sam’s favorite hobbies of rock climbing and skiing were quickly replaced by “flatter” outdoor activities upon moving to Kansas.
  •  Sam currently has two dogs, a golden retriever and a great dane.
